Terms of Service

By using americancarryguide.org you agree to the terms on this page. The most important one is up front: this site publishes research and paperwork guidance for consumers. It is not legal advice, not a government service, and no outcome is promised. Please read the whole page.

What this site is, and what it is not

American Carry Guide is a privately owned informational publication. We are not a government agency, a law enforcement bureau, or a state licensing division. We do not issue, approve, renew, or deny any permit, and we have no special access to any issuing authority. Where we link to an application preparation service, that service is a separate private company and its own terms apply to you once you reach it.

Nothing here is legal advice

Articles, checklists, eligibility questions, and fee figures on this site are general information drawn from public sources. They are not legal advice, and using this site creates no attorney-client relationship and no professional relationship of any kind. Firearms law turns on your county, your record, and your current situation, and small factual differences change the answer. For advice about your own circumstances, consult a licensed attorney in your state or the licensing authority that issues the permit.

Your responsibilities

You are responsible for confirming that what you read here is still current, for checking the official rules published by the issuing authority, for telling the truth on any application you file, and for carrying only where and when the law allows. Recognition of an out-of-state permit depends on each state's current statutes and agreements, which change without notice. It is your job, not ours, to know the law of every state you travel through.

Partner links and compensation

We may receive a referral fee when someone applies through one of our links. That compensation does not change the price you pay, and it does not buy a favorable description of a service we think is a poor fit. We disclose the relationship on every page. We do not control our partner's pricing, staffing, timelines, or customer service, and we cannot act on your behalf in a dispute with them.

Accuracy and changes in the law

We aim for accurate, dated information and we correct errors when they are pointed out. Still, application forms, fees, eligibility criteria, and reciprocity agreements change regularly, sometimes mid-year. We make no warranty, express or implied, that any page is complete, current, or error free, and we make no promise that any application will be accepted or that any permit will be recognized anywhere.

Acceptable use

You may read, print, and share this guide for your own personal use, and you may quote short passages with a link back to the original page. You may not copy the site wholesale, repost it as your own publication, scrape it to train a commercial product, or use our name or a government-style name to sell a similar service. We may restrict access from anyone who abuses the site.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, American Carry Guide and its owners are not liable for any loss, cost, penalty, criminal charge, or missed application arising from your use of this site, and our total liability for anything connected to this site is limited to the amount you paid us, which for a free information site is zero. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, in which case they apply only as far as those laws permit.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site or the law changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised, and continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.
